runway contest

Runway is a contest aimed at teenagers aged 14 to 17 who want to experience what modeling is like in a safe, constructive and fun way.

The teenagers are encouraged to consider ways in which their confidence can develop in age appropriate ways taking into account developmental and ethical milestones.

An important part of the contest is the photographic component as the young models are prepared and trained to respond again in age appropriate ways to different settings, style of clothing and other products.

We feel that young people take a lot out of the experience. They are all at a stage where body image is crucial to them and they can succumb to all sorts of pressures. We reinforce positive attitudes towards bodies that are healthy no matter what size or shape and try to integrate discordant attitudes which could be damaging to the young person's self-concept and self-esteem.

We are also very conscious of the fact that young people are under enormous pressures to act and look grown up and we encourage them to review how appropriate this is and to consider the consequences.

The winners, usually together with the runners up, have been taking part in a number of activities during the past few years which have included photographic shoots in Gibraltar, Spain and Portugal, advertisements, short films and runway shows. Many of these young people often continue in this line of work and go on to enter Model Search or begin to take their modeling career more seriously.
